But the disadvantage of store-bought herbs is that you have to keep on buying them every time you need to make dishes like pesto pasta or chicken with rosemary and thyme. You only need a little for cooking, so the rest might go bad in a few days or weeks.

On the other hand, with potted herb plants for sale, you have access to fresh herbs anytime you need them. Compared to store-bought herbs, they last longer — between a few months or a few years depending on the herb. On top of that, certain herbs — such as parsley and chives — are always better when used fresh.
