Description

The Birds of Paradise is a flowering plant that grows from its underground stems to a height of 3 to 5 ft. This plant has a stiff, curved, and oblong leaf. Its leaves are green in color and has a red rib.

History

Birds of Paradise originated from South Africa, where it is also called as the Crane Flower. This flowering plant has been grown at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew, South Africa since 1773. Strelitzia reginae or Birds of Paradise, was coined by Sir Joseph Banks, who was the the person in charge of the royal gardens.

Propagation

Propagating this indoor plant in Manila can be propagated by splitting up its Rhizomes. Make sure you have a disinfected scissors or knife prepared. First off desoil your matured plant and you’ll see multiple offsets or tubers. Shake off any dirt from your plant. Divide and separate the offsets either by hand or with your knife and repot them into a new pot. Care for your cuttings as you would with the mother plant and wait for rooting to take place.
